Perilous
Motherhood is now the single-best indicator that an unmarried middle-class woman will end up bankrupt. In the world of financial devastation, there are two groups of people: single mothers and others.

Even though I’m a “widowed” mother,I’m determined to never go bankrupt! I refuse to be a statistic! I can do this!

Maria,
I don’t doubt you for a second. So much of this centers on how much “want to” we have inside us.

I believe this is an over generalization. I have been divorced, remarried and now widowed. I am doing well. I have been vigilante with finances-youngest in college. I made sure my ex paid in full–child support. You can be married with a spendthrift husband, or one who loses their job. I thought illness/ disability was more of a factor? This statistic sounds like another slap at single women and they can’t raise children, etc. etc. bias-but I am college educated with a decent joband the top of the pay scale.
